High Court orders KMC not to ban Indian film show

Kathmandu, June 23: The High Court, Patan has issued interlocutory order against Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to not ban the screening of Indian films in movie halls.

On behalf of Nepal Film Association, advocate Pritam Ghimire had filed a writ petition at the High Court against KMC’s decision to ban the Indian film shows since Monday.

In response to the writ petition, a single bench of Judge Dhir Bahadur Chand asked KMC to lift the ban on film show. It was an interlocutory order, according to deputy registrar, Mandira Shahi.

Both sides have been summoned by the court for discussion on the matter on coming June 27.

The KMC had banned the screening of Indian film ‘Adipurush’, arguing that the dialogue ‘Sita is India’s daughter’ must be corrected in main version before its show.

Meanwhile, KMC Mayor Balendra Shah has commented via social media that he would not abide by law and court before the issues of sovereignty and independence. “I am ready to face any action, but won’t let the show run if the film dialogue is not corrected,” he warned.
