High-level team leaves for India to participate in Int’l Conference on Dalit



Kathmandu, Dec 9, 2019 : A high-level delegation has left here for India today to participate in the International Dalit Conference to be held there on December 10.

The team led by President of the Nepal-India Dalit Friendship AssociationOm Prakash Bishwakarma set out for Indian capital, New Delhi, today will conduct research on the governmental and non-governmental sectors’ efforts to uplift the Dalit communities in Nepal and India.

The 15-member team comprises parliamentarians from the Dalit communities such as Sujata Pariyar, Ram Lakhan Harijan and Rampreet Paswan and human rights activists advocating against the caste-based discriminations such as Ishwori BK and Sunita Marik among others. It will participate in the Conference to be organized by Babu Jagjivan Ram National Foundation for Art, Culture and Literature.

During the visit, the Nepali delegation is scheduled to meet the members of the Lower House in India as well as leading Dalit leaders and officials the National Commission for Scheduled Castes among others, according to the Association.

It was shared that during the meetings, talks surrounding the issues facing the Dalit communities in both countries will be discussed.
