New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother, Hiraba, died at the age of 100 on Friday morning. She breathed her last at around 3.30 am.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother, Hiraba, passed away at a hospital in Ahmedabad early on Friday.

A bulletin from the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre, where she was admitted on Wednesday after her health deteriorated, informed the news of her demise.

PM Modi had reached Ahmedabad from Delhi on Wednesday afternoon and visited the hospital to meet his mother. He had remained at the hospital for more than an hour and had also spoken to doctors at the hospital, a government-funded autonomous medical facility.

Born on June 18, 1923, Hiraba, (100), is survived by her five sons — Somabhai, Amritbhai, Narendra, Prahlad and Pankaj — and one daughter Vasantiben.

Born in Visnagar of Mehsana district, Hiraba had lost her mother when she was a child to the Spanish Flu pandemic. She spent much of her life with limited financial resources and was illiterate. Visnagar is close to Vadnagar, PM Modi’s native place.

Hiraba lived at Raysan village near Gandhinagar city with PM Modi’s younger brother Pankaj Modi. The Prime Minister regularly visited Raysan and spent time with his mother during most of his Gujarat visits. (Source: The Indian Express)
