Home Minister and Law Minister discuss with UML leader on citizenship bill

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Balkrishna Khand and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Gobinda Prasad Sharma, have held discussion with deputy leader of parliamentary party of major opposition UML, Subash Chandra Nembang, on the bill designed to amend Nepali Citizenship Act, 2063.

Home Minister Khand informed that the discussion held at leader Nembang’s residence, Baluwatar, dwelt on the bill relating to the citizenship. He further said leader Nembang was urged to extend cooperation to pass the bill.

In response, leader Nembang said UML was positive to the bill relating to amendment to Citizenship Act, but it was yet to observe the points included in the bill.

The bill designed to amend the Nepali Citizenship Act, 2063 was registered in the House of Representatives on August 7, 2018.

Again, on June 23, 2020, the State Affairs Committee had presented the bill in the parliament along with its report.

The bill is expected to address the citizenship problems.
