
Biratnagar, May 13: Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak handed over the Provincial Emergency Warehouse to the Koshi Province Government today. The warehouse is built on the premises of the Integrated Customs Check Post, Rani, Biratnagar.
On the occasion, Home Minister Lekhak emphasized that since the risk of disasters depends on geography, security forces need to be vigilant to mitigate the damages caused by them. Stating that such emergency warehouses have been constructed in all seven provinces, he emphasized that such work has helped in the practice of federalism.
He expressed the belief that the materials stored in this warehouse would provide relief to the people during emergencies, stating that such emergency warehouses should also be built at the municipal level.
On a different note, the Home Minister stated that the incumbent government has prioritized legal and policy reform. He mentioned that the government has instilled hope among the people through good governance and has also conveyed a message of stability to the people.
The Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Hikmat Kumar Karki, said that the federal government is gradually devolving powers to the provincial government and the latter has achieved significant success in the transportation sector.
Reminding that the provincial government has done significant work in the disaster rescue and mitigation area, he clarified that they are working with the objective of making the people safe.
The Minister for Internal Affairs and Law of the province, Rewati Raman Bhandari, expressed the confidence that the materials received from the Home Ministry for the emergency warehouse will help in dealing with disaster immediately.
Dinesh Bhatta, the Head of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, also expressed his views on the occasion.
