Home Ministry directs enforcement of parliamentary probe committee report

Kathmandu, Sept 22: The Home Ministry has directed the Police Headquarters to implement report of the parliament’s special committee on investigation of the cooperatives’ fund embezzlement.

Ministry Spokesperson Rishiram Tiwari informed that the Police Headquarters was written to initiate a process for the enforcement of the recommendations furnished by the special committee.

“Letter from the Council of Ministers was received on the part of the Home Ministry to implement the parliamentary special committee report on embezzlement of the cooperatives fund. For it to go in action, the Police Headquarters is written accordingly, he said, adding that the Police Headquarters studies the report recommendation and takes ahead the enforcement process.

The House of Representatives had formed a parliamentary special committee to probe the cooperatives’ fund misappropriation on May 24 in a bid to resolve the problems facing cooperatives, including the misuse of funds.

The parliamentary committee conducted the study and submitted its report to the HoR meeting on September 15, which the HoR meeting sent it to the government for implementation.

Later the Cabinet meeting forwarded the report to the respective ministries to look after the related issues and take ahead actions accordingly.

Among various complaints of the misappropriation of funds from cooperatives, siphoning money from different cooperatives to Gorkha Media Network Pvt Ltd was one probed by the committee.

With thorough study and investigation, the probe committee finally recommended the government to take action against those in the Board of Directors and decision making levels of the cooperatives- Suryadarshan Saving and Credit Cooperatives Ltd of Pokhara; Supreme Saving and Credit Cooperatives Ltd of Butwal; Swarnalaxmi Multipurpose Cooperatives Ltd; Sahara Chitwan Multipurpose Cooperatives of Chitwan; and Sano Paila Saving and Credit Cooperatives of Birgunj- for illegally siphoning money to the Gorka Media Network.

Similarly, the government has recommended to take action against those in the Board of Directors of Image Saving and Credit Cooperatives Ltd; Samanata Saving and Credit Cooperatives Ltd; Sumeru Saving and Credit Cooperatives Ltd, and IME Cooperatives, among others which flowed money illegally to the Gorkha Media Network. #nepal #crime #cooperatives #RSS
