Kathmandu, Sept 15: The meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) and National Assembly on Sunday has been put off due to the protest of the major opposition party Nepali Congress (NC).

The NC parliamentarians stood from their respective seats in a gesture of protest against the Banke incident where NC Banke district President Kiran Koirala and cadres were beaten by a group of unidentified group of youths on September 12.

NC parliamentarians were not convinced to the response by Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa in the first meeting and thus stood up from their seats.

Speaker Mahara had put off the HoR meeting for ten minutes. The second leg of the meeting had started 10 minutes late.

No sooner the Speaker commenced the second round of meeting, NC parliamentarians stood up from their seats to protest. They blamed the Home Ministry of defending the culprits of the incident as the FIR lodged by the victims were not registered yet.

As the HoR could not proceed, the Speaker put off the meeting until September 16.

Similarly, the meeting today of the National Assembly was obstructed due to the obstruction of the main opposition Nepali Congress. The NC members of parliament obstructed the meeting demanding registration of a FIR about the incident of Banke.

Earlier, Congress MP Badri Prasad Pandey said that his party would continue to obstruct the meeting until the FIR against those responsible behind the attack on NC district chair Kiran Koirala and others was registered.

He also expressed concern over the failure of the police administration to arrest the main accused of the incident.

Member of parliament Radheshyam Adhikari said if the FIR has not been registered then who will the home administration take action against.

MP Surendra Pandey commented that it was undemocratic to reject FIR submitted by the victim side.
