Kathmandu, Jan 29: Additional Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs, India, Munu Mahawar, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister of Nepal, Dr Arzu Rana Deuba today, discussing various issues ranging from Nepal-India relations, mutual interests and avenues for future cooperation.
During the meeting, Dr Rana reiterated Nepal’s strong commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting cooperation for the mutual benefit of the citizens of both the countries.
She regarded the Boundary Working Group (BWG) as an important mechanism for resolving border-related issues and urged a meeting to address any issues.
The meeting also discussed holding a meeting of the Group that has not been held for some years.
The Nepal India Joint Commission meeting held in January 2024 had directed the Group to hold a meeting and take necessary action. Both sides discussed the need for such meetings to improve relations and facilitate mutual cooperation.
They touched the issue of continuing bilateral meetings, noting the success of the India-Nepal Intergovernmental Committee and the Nepal-India Energy Meeting held in Kathmandu this month.
Dr Rana urged the Indian government to prioritise Nepal’s request for additional air routes and direct flights between India’s various cities and newly-built Gautam Buddha and Pokhara International Airports.
Additionally, she requested India’s facilitation in the transport of equipment and construction materials through their territory for ongoing road construction from Darchula to Tinkar on the eastern side of the Mahakali river, an area facing logistical difficulties due to geographical difficulties.
Nepal has already formally urged Indian government for the same. #nepal #india
