Kathmandu, Feb 15: The Supreme Court has issued an interim order withholding the enforcement of the Election Commission’s decision to impose a fine on Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Balendra (Balen) Shah.

The Constitutional Bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki, Justices Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Dr Ananda Mohan Bhattarai, Anil Kumar Sinha and Prakashman Singh Raut has issued an interim order not to implement the said decision of the Commission.

The court ordered the commission not to immediately implement the decision to impose the fine, seeking a written response from the commission about the same.

It may be noted that the EC had decided to fine those who did not submit the election expenditure details on time following the May 13 local level elections including Rs 750,000 against Mayor Shah. The KMC Mayor challenged the decision of the EC in the apex court.
