International conference on Rato Machchhindranath taking place in Guwahati



Lalitpur, Feb 10: Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan along with an expert team has reached Guwahati, India today to participate in the international conference on Rato Machhindranath.

The Guwahati University, Assam is organizing the international conference on Rato Machchhindranath, the deity of rain and good harvest. Rato Machchhindranath is known as to Buṅga Dyaḥ in Nepal Bhasa language.

The deity is also venerated as Karunamaya or the compassionate one, an aspect of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteswara and is popularly believed to bring the monsoon rains. He is also identified as an aspect of the Hindu saint Machhindranatha.

Mayor Maharjan is accompanied by Coordinator of Tourism, Culture Committee and Chairman of ward no. 5 Bikash Man Shrestha, ward chair of ward no. 6 Rupendra Raj Shakya and ward chair of ward no. 19 Rajendra Maharjan, intangible heritage advisor of the metropolis Badan Lal Nyachyo, tourism advisor Dilendra Raj Shrestha, among other officials.

According to Mayor Maharjan, the international conference will hold extensive deliberations on the historical aspects of the legend related to the deity, religious and cultural significance of Rato Machhindranath, which was brought to Kathmandu Valley from Kamaksha Kamaru in Assam, India 1,400 years ago.#nepal #rss
