Kathmandu, May 19: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has said that adequate budget should be allocated for the Information Technology (IT) sector, which is very important for development of the country.
At the third quarterly review of the fiscal year 2081/2082 and the ministerial-level development action committee meeting held at the Ministry on Monday, he stressed that the Ministry of Finance should be serious towards that end.
After the progress review, Minister Gurung said although the IT sector is important for development the budget it gets is not enough.
“It is not possible to fulfill the vision of the digital framework without adequate resources” Admitting that the ministry has lagged behind in capital expenditure as in the past, he said that this requires improving the efficiency of employees and developing cooperation between ministries.
“One of the various reasons for the lack of increase in capital expenditure is the working style of the employees while the other is the ineffectiveness of coordination and collaboration between the relevant ministries.”
Minister Gurung urged all the bodies under the ministry to complete the specified ‘milestones’ and increase capital expenditure by mid-Ashar. Communications Secretary Radhika Aryal said that everyone should act on addressing the problems seen in capital expenditure.
She drew the Planning Commission’s attention to the issue of ‘milestone revision’ raised by the department heads in the meeting. Under Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Niran Bhattarai said that capital expenditure is the main problem of the government and requested that the budget be allocated only for essential and spendable items in the upcoming budget.
National Planning Commission Joint Secretary Arjun Bhandari suggested that attention should be paid to reprioritizing plans to eliminate the problem of low capital expenditure. #nepal #IT sector #rss
