Kathmandu, Dec 16: The Shambhu-Nirmala Art-Literature Society has conferred this year’s ‘Shambhu-Nirmala Bishistha Sadhak Award’ to litterateur and senior journalist Bhairab Risal.
Office bearers of the Society visited Risal’s house in Anamagar and handed him a cash prize of Rs 21,000 and certificate of appreciation amid a function here on Saturday.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of the third annual commemoration day of senior writer of the society and musician Shambhu Kumar Milan, a commemorative book entitled ‘Smritibimbama Shambhu Kumar Milan, was launched at a function.
Former vice chancellor of Nepal Academy Bairagi Kainla and former speaker Damannath Dhungana along with senior litterateurs launched the book.
Milan, a respected figure in the field of Nepali literature and art, has made an incomparable contribution in the field of literature, song, music, education and academic area.
The work published in his memory include writings and creations by 31 people in the memoir part, 17 people in the family memoir part and 19 people in the criticism part.
Born on the Nepali month of Mangsir 5, 2006 in Battisputali, Kathmandu, Milan died on October 31, 2020 due to COVID-19 at the age of 71. He work for the Radio Nepal through a children’s programme and devoted himself to the national service for a long time through Radio Nepal. He has to his name more than a dozen songs, poems and gazals.
On the occasion, Sabitra Devi Sharma, a researcher on the study of Milan’s biography, personality and work, was honoured. Similarly, the Nepal Academy former vice chancellor Kainla recalled that Milan was a role model in the fields of literature, music and singing.
Saying that he has been a source of inspiration for dedicated and enthusiastic people, he viewed that Milan’s courage and confidence helped him reach this pinnacle in his field.
Former speaker Dhungana remembered Milan as a great performer in the field of song and music and as an all-knowing personality.
Patron of the Society Nirmala Regmi, President Prof Dr Devi Nepal, treasurer Sirjana Regmi, senior critic Dr Ganesh Bhattarai, senior journalist Bijaya Chalise, and senior musician Bulu Mukarung among others discussed Milan’s literature and works.
