Kathmandu, May 27: Nepali mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa has once again broken his own world record by summiting Mount Everest for the 31st time on Tuesday morning.
Known as the “Everest Man,” the 55-year-old climber reached the summit at 4 AM, according to Chhang Dawa Sherpa, director of Seven Summit Treks. It has said, “Kami Rita reached the summit of Everest (Sagarmatha) for the 31st time early this morning, at around 4 AM, under fairly stable weather conditions. Serving as the main guide (Sardar) for the Army Adventure Wing Everest Expedition, led by Lt. Col. Manoj Joshi, Kami Rita not only reached the summit himself but also led and guided the last remaining members of the team to the top.”
Kami Rita was leading a team of 22 Indian Army personnel as their main guide. He is expected to return to Everest Base Camp (at 5,200 meters) by Wednesday morning and then fly back to Kathmandu.
Last year, Kami Rita set a global record by scaling Everest twice within ten days — his 29th summit on Baisakh 30, 2081 (May 12, 2024), and the 30th on Jestha 9, 2081 (May 22, 2024).
Born in Thame, Solukhumbu, Kami Rita began his mountaineering career at the age of 12 and summited Everest for the first time in 2051 B.S. at age 24. Since then, he has climbed Everest, Mt K2, Manaslu, Lhotse, and other 8,000-meter peaks a total of 45 times. He has even climbed Everest five times in a single season. #nepal #everest #KamiRita
