Kathmandu, June 3: Raju Pandey, the Chief of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Force, has been suspended for six months, and Deputy Superintendent Bishnu Prasad Joshi has been appointed as the acting head.

The decision was made by Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain, who issued a letter assigning Joshi to take charge of the Metropolitan Police Force until further arrangements are made.

Pandey was suspended after failing to provide a satisfactory explanation in response to a clarification letter issued by Guragain. The letter was in relation to obstructing Guragain’s entry into the office, a move that the Chief Administrative Officer deemed unacceptable.

Under the existing law, the authority to lead, appoint, and mobilize the Metropolitan Police Force lies primarily with the Chief Administrative Officer of the municipality. However, there have been growing allegations that Mayor Balen Shah has been using the metropolitan police force arbitrarily, contributing to a disorderly situation within the city.

This latest development comes amid increasing scrutiny of internal administrative conflicts within the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, especially regarding the role and conduct of the municipal police force. #nepal #KMC #Balen
