Kathmandu, May 22: A preliminary draft has been approved for the establishment of a 24-bed maternity and obstetrics specialized health facility in Thankot of Chandragiri municipality-4.
This facility will serve as a satellite hospital to the Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital in Thapathali. It will be established with the financial and technical support from the government of Germany.
The KfW Development Bank of Germany has endorsed the preliminary draft and is now working on a comprehensive draft for the project, it is said. The Ministry of Health and Population and Chandragiri municipality have been informed about the progress, and this has cleared the way for initiating the bidding process for the project.
A high-level delegation from KfW’s headquarters in Frankfurt visited the project site on Wednesday (May 21) for a field inspection and held discussions with local representatives and the administrative team of the Municipality Office.
During the meeting, Chandragiri municipality Mayor Ghanashyam Giri assured the delegation of maximum cooperation from the local government in establishing the facility. He also expressed gratitude to KfW for endorsing the preliminary draft.
The KfW delegation comprised Michelle Schwipper, Prof. Dr. Jorg Heukelbach, Rebecca Traeger, and Nicola Anna Pascale Dehnen.Present at the meeting were Deputy Mayor Basanti Shrestha, Chief Administrative Officer Surendra Thapa Magar, Municipality Spokesperson and Chandragiri-4 Ward Chair Krishna Prasad Khadgi, Social
Development Committee Coordinator and Chandragiri-15 Ward Chair Ghanashyam Luintel, Chandragiri-11 Ward Chair Narendra Raj Shrestha, and Chandragiri-5 Ward Chair Rajendra Maharjan, among others.
KfW is providing economic and technical assistance amounting to Rs one billion for the construction of the hospital.
The Council of Ministers has already approved the allocation of 23 ropani of land (one ropani is equivalent to 508.72 square meters) for the facility.
Mayor Giri reiterated the local government’s commitment to support the hospital’s establishment and to promote it as a specialized healthcare facility.
