Khandadevi homestay of Ramechhap dispute continues

Ramechhap, Nov 10: The collective homestay built in Khandadevi Rural Municipality-3 Dapkha of Ramechhap district has not yet been put into operation.

The homestay has not been operational for a year and a half due to the dispute over land certificates. A collective homestay were constructed targeting the Majhi community in Khandadevi Rural Municipality-3 Dapkha of Ramechhap. It is blamed that the government was unwilling to make necessary arrangement and sort out the problem.

The Bagmati Provincial government had built 42 houses to use as collective homestay under the agri-tourism program. According to reports, some of the houses remained on the land of two people, while some houses were built on the land of the same person. It was difficult to sort out the ownership of the house.

Chandra Bahadur Majhi, a resident, said that since the house was built on the land of a limited number of people, he was not sure whether the landless people would be able to use the house or not.

The locals who trusted the government and gave land for the construction of collective homestays are now regretting it. Since the homestays are not operational, millions of Rupees of the government have been poured into the sand. Nara Bahadur Majhi, a local, mentioned that the homestay will not be allowed to operate without sorting out the land dispute.

Gyan Kumar Shrestha, Chairman of Khandadevi Rural Municipality, said that the local government is unable to resolve the land disputes and building usage disputes. The collective homestay was built at a total cost of Rs. 2.75 crores.
