Kathmandu, Dec 2: The counting of votes in the by-election for the mayor of Kirtipur Municipality, held on Sunday, is currently underway. According to Election Officer Indira Karki, the counting of votes in five wards has been so far completed.
Nepali Congress candidate Krishnaman Dangol has maintained his lead in Kirtipur, where a total of 11,349 votes were cast. According to the latest update from the commission, Congress’s Dangol has received 2,930 votes.
Following closely behind is CPN-UML candidate Surendra Manandhar. Manandhar, who has secured 2,384 votes so far.
Similarly, CPN-Maoist Center candidate Shiva Sharan Maharjan has received 2,101 votes.
Independent candidate Rajman Maharjan is currently in fourth place with 1,113 votes. According to Election Officer Karki, out of the total votes cast in Kirtipur, 11,141 votes were deemed valid while 335 votes were invalid.
The political parties involved have made the Kirtipur contest a matter of prestige in this by-election.
Meanwhile, CPN Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the party was performing a far better than many have thought.
