Kathmandu, Jan 4: Former Prime Miniser and CPN UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has recorded his statement at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Sunday at the NHRC office in Lalitpur.
The Commission questioned Oli in connection with violent incidents that occurred during the Gen Z protests held on September 8 and 9, 2025. KP Sharma Oli was the prime minister during the protests where nearly six dozens of people died. Oli was reportedly asked detailed questions regarding the events that took place during the protests.
Member of NHRC, Lily Thapa, shared, “Questions were focused on the role he played during the Gen Z movement in his capacity as the executive head of the government and Chairperson of the National Security Council. The Commission had prepared 35 questions, all of which he answered before leaving.”
According to Thapa, Oli’s statement was recorded from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm, covering his duties, responsibilities, and role as the executive head and Chairperson of the National Security Council.
Oli also submitted a written statement today to the high-level probe commission formed to investigate the incidents related to the Gen Z movement.
Earlier, the Commission had recorded statements from Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah, then Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, among others.
The NHRC stated that it has also taken statements from other concerned stakeholders and senior officials of the security agencies as part of the ongoing investigation. #genz #kpoli
