Kathmandu: The Constitutional Court of the Supreme Court has ordered to call both sides for a discussion on the citizenship dispute of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane on January 25. The court did not issue an interim order as requested by the petitioner.
This order was given after the hearing held on Friday in the Constitutional Court. After the order, the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Lamichhane has been secured until January 25.
The hearing was held in the bench of Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki, Justices Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Dr. Anand Mohan Bhattarai, Anil Kumar Sinha and Prakashman Singh Raut. The constitutional bench today discussed whether to issue interim order or not.
Advocate Raviraj Basaula, Yuvraj Paudel and others filed a writ petition raising questions about the eligibility of Deputy Prime Minister Lamichhane, who is also the chairman of the newly formed Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
The demand for cancellation of the MP post of Deputy Prime Minister Lamichhane was made in the writ application mentioning that he opened a political party without taking Nepali citizenship and became a member of Parliament by competing in the House of Representatives elections.
