Lalitpur, May 9: Godvari Municipality of Lalitpur has started adopting biotechnology for landslide prevention.
The municipality has planted saplings for the prevention and control of landslide as part of its pilot project implemented with the technical assistance of Vetiver Nepal.
While planting saplings at Kitachaur, Bistachhap in Godawari Municipality-2 today, Mayor Gajendra Maharjan said that the municipality would continue to expand its use as landslide prevention through biotechnology such as vetiver has been found effective.
Likewise, Godavari-2 ward chair Manohar Silwal noted that Godavari could be established as Nepal’s first carbon-negative municipality with its plan to build green infrastructure.
The vetiver technology has been found effective at the international level as well, he said, laying emphasis on expanding its use in the countries like Nepal having high risk of landslides.
He highlighted the emphatic use of vetiver in reviving the ecosystem when the United Nations (UN) has declared 2020-30 as the decade for ecosystem restoration.#nepal # Godavari #rss
