Kathmandu, June 10: Literary enthusiasts and critics held an interaction on an anthology of poetry, ‘Dinbhari Pani Parirahanchha’, in the federal capital, Kathmandu, on Tuesday.
The poems penned by Dr Tulasi Acharya dwell significantly on topics spanning diaspora, patriotism, nostalgia, split identity to nature, according to critics during the interaction.
Critic Raj Kumar Baniya noted that Acharya’s poetry had a blend of fiction’s plot and essays’ style. So, Acharya has gone beyond traditional genre of poetry with the use of concrete images, he added.
Baniya further argued a global consciousness is an essential trait in Acharya’s poetry.
Another critic and university teacher Dr Gyanu Adhikari observed although the poetry claims it is experimental in nature, some of the features in it were already introduced in Nepali literature. However, Acharya’s writing would certainly help whet a debate on ‘prose poetry’ in Nepali literary milieu. She praised the fine articulation of human emotion in his poems.
“Use of concrete image however may sometime limit everlasting essence of poetry, as the poems thrive best in free flow of feelings,” said another critic and university teacher, Dr Gita Tripathi.
In view of commentator Radhika Kalpit, nostalgia is reflected much in Acharya’s poems. “At a time when relations and love are under strain, much attention has been paid to these sensitive topics in his poems, which deserves accolade,” she said, adding that eco-consciousness is another theme in his poetry.
Journalist Akhanda Bhandari welcomed the experimental features in Acharya’s creations.
Dr Acharya writes frequently on Nepal’s governance and literature, and conducts researches on multifarious issues, dividing his time between the US and Nepal. He made it clear that he had studied ‘prose poetry’ during his academic years of creative writing, which he tried to apply in the anthology. “The insightful debate on it would help further hone his literary journey,” Dr Acharya believed.
Also speaking on the occasion were editors from different media and academia. Styles of writing and editing- past and present- were also discussed on the occasion. #nepal #rss
