Machchhegaun farmers busy in rice plantations (photo feature)

Kathmandu, June 23: Farmers in Machchhegaun, on the outskirts of Kathmandu, are busy transplanting rice seedlings as the monsoon rains finally arrive in the valley.

This year’s monsoon onset occurred six days later than the average date, bringing much-needed relief to farmers who had been waiting for sufficient rainfall to begin paddy cultivation.

Rice planting is one of Nepal’s most important agricultural activities, providing livelihoods for millions of farming families and contributing significantly to the national economy.

The annual National Paddy Day, celebrated on Asar 15 (June 29), is expected to highlight the importance of rice farming and food security while encouraging timely plantation across the country. #nepal
