Biratnagar, April 7: Machchindra Football Club has won the title of the 8th Birat Gold Cup football tournament.
On Saturday evening, Machindra defeated Shangrila Football Club Morang 2-0 in the Shahid Stadium in Biratnagar and captured the title.
In the scheduled 90-minute match held on Saturday night as part of the competition, Machindra shined in extra time after both teams could not score a goal.
In the 113th minute of the match, Chhiring Gurung of Machchindra and Yusup Thapalia scored in the 119th minute. Along with the title, Machindra Club received Rs 11 lakh and Shangrila received Rs 550,000 cash prize.
The player of the match Laken Limbu from Machhindra, the best player Mahendra Karki from Shangrila, the best goalkeeper Bishal Shrestha from Machhindra, the best coach Santosh Neupane from Machhindra and the top scorer Stephen Winong from Machhindra each received a cash prize of Rs 21,000.
Koshi Province Chief Minister Kedar Karki and All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) President Pankaj Bikram Nemwang and Birat Gold Cup Trust President Kishore Shahi presented the prizes to the winning and runner-up teams of the competition.
Ten teams including one each from Nepal, India and Bhutan and domestic eight participated in the tournament. #nepal
