Madhes movement established federalism: Chief Minister Yadav

Birgunj, April 6: Chief Minister of Madhes Province Saroj Kumar Yadav has said that Madhes played a vital role in establishing federalism in the country.

Addressing the ‘Voice of Birgunj’ programme here Saturday, the Chief Minister said federalism was established in the country on the foundation of the Madhes movement. “It has been seven years since federalism was established but still the provinces are not able to realize the essence of federalism,” he argued.

Changes in government leadership has also caused challenges in the overall development of the province, according to the Chief Minister.

He added that Birgunj city has been collecting huge amounts of revenue for the federal government, but the federal government has not provided enough budget and other subsidies to Birgunj.

Similarly, Pradeep Yadav, Member of the House of Representatives (HoR), said the federal government has neglected Birgunj though it has contributed a large amount of revenue. He said, “Birgunj contributes the largest amount of the revenue collection but the federal government has not worked for the economic and social development of Birgunj as it should have done.”

Rajeshman Singh, Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City, complained that the federal government did not recognize the glory of Birgunj. “Birgunj city is known as a vibrant city due to economy, language, culture and customs”, he said.

On the occasion, representatives of different business organizations urged the federal government to pay attention to the holistic development of the city. #Nepal
