Tanahun, Nov 13: The first of its kind, Anbukhaireni Rural Municipality in Tanahun district exported marigold flower to Doha of Qatar.
The marigold flower produced by Yanchok Mothers’ Group and Andhimul Mothers’ Group were exported to Qatar.
With the beginning of the commercial flower production, the trend to import flowers has come to an end, Chairwoman of Yanchok Mothers’ Group Sunita Alemagar said.
Alemagar said that women in the village have made good income from flower selling in the recent days.
The rural municipality office has also provided technical assistance and grants in the flowers’ seeds to help promote women in income generation through flower production.
Chief of Agriculture Section of Anbukhaireni Rural Municipality Santosh KC said that 85 kilogram of marigold produced in 21 ropani of area from the two groups was exported to Qatar.
It is said that per kilogram of marigold was sold at Rs 550. The Sudan Flower of Doha’s Regency Market had ordered the flower from Anbukhaireni.
Kaligandaki exports flower worth Rs 2 million
Kaligandaki Rural Municipality of Syangja district has exported flower worth Rs 2 million in this festive season.
The flower produced from the locals in the rural municipality has been exported to the cities of Pokhara, Butwal and Kathmandu.
Chief of Agriculture Section of Kaligandaki Rural Municipality Anup Paudel said that the flower worth Rs 2 million, which was produced from 16 farmers and groups from seven wards of the rural municipality, has been exported so far.
The rural municipality has provided 50 per cent in grant to the flower producers in Kaligandaki. Paudel said that flower worth a total of Rs 2.5 million is expected to export until this Tihar festival.
For the production of flowers, the rural municipality had provided Rs 9,000 in grant per ropani and the farmers were also provided with consultations and technical assistance for free.
