Minister Baskota resigns amid corruption row

Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Prasad Banskota has resigned from his post on Thursday. Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota informed the House of Representatives meeting about this.

The Speaker shared this information after the main opposition party, Nepali Congress, demanded in the House meeting that the Communications and Information Technology Minister be immediately sacked as an audio tape has been made public in which he is heard asking for commission in the security press purchase process.

The senior leaders of ruling Communist Party of Nepal (NCP), including Prime Minister, have asked to tender his resignation earlier today.

Minister Baskota was the most controversial face in the incumbent Cabinet. He was very unfriendly towards media sector and proposed many regressive laws and regulations to control the media of the country.

Even the ruling party lawmakers were requesting the senior leaders to warn Baskota on different matters, including party activities.
