Kathmandu, July 27: Minister for Information and Communication Dr Bikram Timilsina and Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha visited different sites in the Kathmandu Valley on Monday to monitor the management of the unmanaged cables of internet, telephone and television service providers.
The two ministers visited Gaushala, Purano Baneshwor, Jadibuti and other areas in the valley and took information from the representatives of the concerned authorities regarding the progress on cable management.
The government is working to clear and manage the unmanaged cables of internet, telephone and television service providers in six routes along the Tripureshwor-Kalimati-Kalanki section, Jadibuti-Pepsicola section, Samakhusi-Gongabu section, Kritipur area and Purano Baneshwor-Gaushala-Chabahil area.
On the occasion, Minister Dr Timilsina expressed reservation to the performance in clearing such cables by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) despite latter’s commitment to complete the first phase of its tasks by July 31.
Minister Dr Timilsina also directed the concerned officials for timely completion of the given tasks to ensure direct result to the citizens.
Minister Dr Timilsina viewed that all bodies should focus on result through an effective coordination. “People have sought for the results. No one has excuse for dillydallying. The bodies and authorities failing to complete their responsibility will be punished,” Dr Timilsina added.
Minister Dr Timilsina also directed to immediately remove the unused cable, adding that those fixing it in the past should also take responsibility to remove it.
Likewise, Minister Dr Timilsina asked the officials to visit the ministry in case of any legal, technical and administrative challenges to remove the unused cables.
On the occasion, the Minister of Energy, Water Resource and Irrigation said that all agencies should be held accountable for management of unmanaged cables and ensure underground cabling.
Minister Shrestha argued that the regulatory body, service providers and the local levels should work in tandem to remove the unmanaged cables, adding that this is not only linked to the citizens’ security but also a matter of building a managed and beautiful city. #nepal #rss
