More people in Chitwan obtaining non-resident Nepali citizenship

Chitwan, Dec 21: The number of people obtaining non-resident Nepali citizenship in Chitwan has increased compared to those renouncing their Nepali citizenship. Since last July, 40 individuals have renounced their Nepali citizenship, while 49 have acquired non-resident Nepali citizenship.

Assistant Chief District Officer Chiranjivi Sharma said that among those who renounced their citizenship were 13 women and 27 men. He explained that individuals generally renounce their Nepali citizenship upon arriving in Nepal in order to obtain non-resident citizenship.

During the same period, 20 women and 29 men in the district have successfully obtained non-resident Nepali citizenship. Sharma noted that applicants are required to complete the prescribed form at the office, submit photocopies of their passport and foreign citizenship certificate, provide a citizenship renunciation certificate, and have the documents verified by a relative or acquaintance.

He added that Nepalis living abroad often seek non-resident citizenship to facilitate investment and other economic activities in Nepal. Sharma also informed that the citizenship of two individuals in the district has been revoked.

Citizenship revocation has been carried out in cases involving dual citizenship or engagement in anti-state activities. Since July, the District Administration Office has issued citizenship certificates by descent to 3,759 individuals, while 11 individuals have obtained citizenship through marriage. #nepal #citizenship
