Mt Everest Summiteers Felicitation Programme organised in Australia



Kathmandu, Dec 12: On the occasion of International Mountain Day, the Nepali Embassy in Canberra, Australia, organised Mt Everest Summiteers’ Felicitation Programme. The programme was held in coordination with Australian Himalayan Foundation with the objective of tourism promotion of Nepal in Canberra on Monday.

Nepali Ambassdor Kailash Raj Pokharel welcomed the distinguished guests and delivered a welcome remark highlighting the tourism destinations of Nepal including the breathtaking snow-caped high Himalayas.

While commending the heroic achievement of summiting the highest mountain of the World situated in Nepal, Ambassador Pokharel thanked them for promoting Nepal in Australia as well as extending their helping hands towards Nepalis through different charity and non-profitable organisations.

Similarly, first Australian Mt Everest climber Greg Mortaimer described his experience of climbing the Mt Everest. He thanked the Nepali Embassy in Canberra for organising such programme that provided opportunity to gather all mountain climbers together.

Five times Mt Everest climber Lakpa Sherpa also appreciated the programme and elaborated the records set by Nepali climbers.

Likewise, CEO of Australian Himalayan Foundation, Andrew Judge, the youngest Australian Mt Everest climber, Gabrielle Kanizay, and George Hillary (Grandson of Sir Edmund Hillary) were other speakers in the programme who praised the beautiful Himalayas of Nepal and thanked Embassy of Nepal for felicitating the Australian Mt Everest climbers, reads a press release issued on Monday by Embassy of Nepal in Canberra.

Mt Everest climbers from Australia, Assistant Secretary from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of Australia, representatives from Australian Himalayan Foundation and Reach for Nepal, Australian media and Nepali Community leaders were present in the programme.

Thirty-seven Australian Mt Everest climbers were felicitated with letter of Recognition, Nepali Khada scarves and Nepal Flag-pin.
