Mugu district sans snakebite treatment centre

Mugu, Aug 18: Snakebites patients in Mugu district are facing grave difficulty in availing treatment in their locality in lack of snakebite treatment centre in the centre.

Poisonous snakes found in Terai have begun appearing in the hilly areas lately. Hence, more and more cases of snakebites are reported in the hilly areas as well these days.

Dr Kamal Dhungana, Chief of the District Hospital in Mugu, shared that there was a shortage of trained doctors to treat the snakebite patients in the hospital”. He added, “There is a problem in the treatment of snakebite patients due to lack of anti-snake venom serum, ICU and ventilator.”

Snakebite patients who come to the District Hospitals are sent outside of the district for treatment, according to him.

Baidevi Sejuwal of Chayannath Rara Municipality-4 complained that she was bitten by a snake last June and had to be treated by the Jharphuk method after the snakebite was not treated at the district hospital. She demanded that the snakebite treatment service should be availed in the district hospital.
