Muskan and Bhumika received courage awards in US

Kathmandu, March 9: Bhumika Shrestha and Muskan Khatun met with United States First Lady Jill Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the White House on International Women’s Day. Both of them are the recipients of the International Women of Courage Award from Nepal.

The U.S. Department of State established the award in 2007 to honor women who are making a substantial difference in the lives of women around the globe. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the two were unable to attend an in-person event in Washington, but had the opportunity to do so now, the US Embassy in Kathmandu said.

Bhumika received the award last year for her dedication to improving the lives of the LGBTQI+ community. In 2021, Muskan was awarded for her work to end acid attacks.

“You two continue to be an inspiration to us all”, the Embassy said.
