Bhaktapur : Bhaktapur municipality has acknowledged the support of Nepal Army (NA) in carrying out renovation and reconstruction of historical Rani Pokhari within the premises of its barrack.

A team of the municipality led by Mayor Sunil Prajapati on Wednesday gave away an attractive ‘peacock wall art’ to Army Chief Purna Chandra Thapa in recognition of NA’s approval and support in undertaking Ranipokhari renovation within the barrack.

The municipality applauded the cooperation extended by NA in course of rebuild of Rani Pokhari located at the premises of Sainik Awashiya Mahavidhyalaya at Bhaktapur-1, Sallaghari as well as its contribution to allow the youths to use its sports ground.

Mayor Prajapati shared renovation and reconstruction of the Bhaktapur-based Rani Pokhari had begun after the NA sent a letter opening the efforts for maintenance and preservation of the ancient pond.

Ranipkhari that was built in 1687 BS during the regime of King Jagjyoti Malla was 40 years ancient than the Kathmandu-based Ranipokhari. It has long been in shambles so the municipality with support from NA and locals took the bid to reconstruct the historical heritage, Prajapati added.

The municipality leadership appreciated the national army for its support in the preservation of local art, culture, religion and heritage in keeping with the feeling of local people.

On the occasion, Army Chief Thapa pledged to localize the military-people relations by extending support to the local efforts for preserving historically important culture, traditions and heritages in different parts of the country.
