NC urges convening of Bagmati Province Assembly within April 7

Kathmandu, March 31: The Nepali Congress (NC) Bagmati province parliamentary party has urged that the meeting of the Bagmati Province Assembly meeting be convened by April 7.

The meeting presided over by NC parliamentary party leader Indra Bahadur Baniya here on Tuesday decided to call for the meeting of the Province Assembly that is long overdue, said Pukar Maharjan, Chief Whip of NC, Bagmati Provincial Parliamentary Committee.

The Parliamentary party leader Baniya is also the sitting Chief Minister of the Bagmati Province. It may be noted that the Bagmati Province Assembly has not convened for the past seven months. Its last meeting was held on August 12, 2025 when CM Baniya had sought a vote of confidence.

Today’s meeting also decided to study the report submitted by the Administrative Restructuring Committee formed by the provincial government and furnish suggestions within a week for further improvements into the report.

Chief whip Maharjan clarified that today’s meeting did not decide to recommend reducing the number of provincial ministries from 14 to seven nor did it suggest that the government should limit the upcoming budget only to what is realistically implementable or feasible.

He added that although there is mounting pressure within the party to claim the vacant position of the Speaker of the Province Assembly, the meeting concluded that the matter would be resolved through a consensus with other political parties. #nepal #rss
