Nepal Bar demands to appoint Chief Justice within seven days

Kathmandu, April 12: The Nepal Bar Association has drawn the attention of the government to proceed with the process of appointing the Chief Justice immediately.

In a press conference organized by Nepal Bar Association on Wednesday, President Gopal Krishna Ghimire demanded to appoint the Chief Justice within seven to ten days. “The post of Chief Justice has been vacant for a long time, the post of many judges in high and district are vacant”, President Ghimire said, “I request that the process of appointing the Chief Justice be carried out within seven to 10 days.”

He said that despite repeatedly drawing the attention of the Prime Minister, House Speaker, the judiciary was left without a leader for a long time by not appointing a Chief Justice. He also said that he will meet Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at 8 am tomorrow to draw attention to the speedy appointment of the Chief Justice and inform him about the deadline given by Nepal Bar.

He also demanded to implement the report of the then judge Hari Krishna Karki to end the corruption, distortion and disharmony of the judiciary. He said that including the Chief Justice, there are five vacant posts in the Supreme Court, 50 in the High Court and four in the District Court.

Likewise, President of the Supreme Court Bar Association Hari Shankar Niraula also demanded that the process of appointing the Chief Justice should be carried out without delay. He said that the delay in the appointment process of the Chief Justice has affected the smooth functioning of the judiciary.
