Nepal–India ties should leverage the IT sector

Kathmandu, Feb 7: Communication and Information Technology Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung stated that the full benefits of the strong relationship between Nepal and India should be harnessed through the IT sector.

Addressing the “Second India–Nepal Startup Connect Program” organized here by the Indian Embassy, Minister Gurung remarked that, in this era of information technology, IT forms the foundation that can further strengthen bilateral ties. He noted that the cultural, emotional, and open-border relations between Nepal and India now need to be transformed into innovative collaboration. In particular, he emphasized the importance of fostering innovative partnerships among the youth of both countries through the IT field.

Minister Gurung also highlighted that Nepal has been actively engaged in building IT infrastructure, expanding market opportunities, and developing a digital framework. He further informed that the government plans to launch its own satellite, expand digital literacy, and introduce an AI policy.

“We can now collaborate with India through innovation,” he said, “which will not only broaden our bilateral relations but also provide a significant boost to our economies.”

India’s Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, added that collaboration between Nepali and Indian innovators will promote entrepreneurship in Nepal. He observed that, given the substantial investments the Indian government has been making in innovation—and Nepal’s own commendable efforts—there is great potential to further enhance cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Srivastava also urged participation in India’s upcoming Innovation Mega Event from April 3 to 5, inviting both sides to join in creative collaboration. #nepal #india #ITsector
