Lalitpur, Feb 19: The Nepali Congress (NC) Mahasamiti meeting kicked off at the Sunrise Convention Centre in Godabari of Lalitpur. The meeting aiming to formulate the party’s official policy began coinciding with the Democracy Day. It was inaugurated by party central President and former Prime Minister, Sher Bahadur Deuba.
The event has brought together by 165 incumbent central committee office bearers and members and 1,780 Mahasamiti members representing the electoral constituencies of House of Representatives.
Similarly, 89 attendees are from the Nepali Liason Committees and 69 from the sister and other affiliated organisations among others. The meeting will run till February 22.
Inaugurating the meeting, Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the continuation of the alliance is a political responsibility of time.
President Deuba said that since no one party can get a majority, there is a need for an alliance.
He mentioned that the continuation of the alliance is a political responsibility and said that it would be appropriate to make a decision whether or not to form an alliance in the future. Deuba said that the party’s theoretical principles, policies and programs will be guided by democratic principles.
He said that the implementation and defense of the constitution are the main agenda today. This is also our responsibility. Proper implementation of the constitution can bring peace, good governance and development in the country.
Deuba also said that constitutional amendments should be discussed so as not to affect the fundamental issues in the form of government. He said, “It has been 8 years since the constitution was promulgated. The problems, complications or ambiguities that appeared during the implementation of the constitution have been identified.”
He also called for a majority in all three levels of government in the upcoming elections. #Nepal
