KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC)’s office-bearers have deliberated on the agendas to be presented in the meeting of the Central Working Execution Committee slated for Thursday.

At the meeting convened at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar, Kathmandu on Wednesday, the officials dwelt on 16 district working committees that remains to hold district convention, sister organizations whose term has expired, and the upcoming local level election among others that will be presented on the CWC meeting.

According to NC spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, Prime Minister and President Sher Bahadur Deuba was also briefed about the issues discussed in the meeting held among the officials at party’s central office at Sanepa on last Tuesday.

Spokesperson Mahat said that they will reach the conclusion on how to move ahead further strongly in future after collecting recommendations from the CWC’s meeting.

The major ruling party NC has called for CWC meeting at 2 pm tomorrow (Thursday) at the party’s central office at Sanepa.

The district level conventions in 16 districts remain to be held due to COVID-19 while the government recently announced to hold the local level election on May 13 this year in a single phase.

According to sources, the meeting primarily had focused on the management and election of sister organizations. Joint-Secretary Kishor Singh Rathor has said that the next meeting will dwell on the sister organizations whose term has already finished.

Nepali Congress has 13 sister organization and 18 well wisher organizations. Most of the organization are now in a passive stage due mainly leadership crisis. Some of the organizations have been running without any legitimate leadership.

The NC Central Party leadership was mostly found indifferent to timely conducting election of the organizations. They fear that new leadership would emerge from the organization and challenge them. So, the sister organizations have converted into ‘Yes-man’ organization.

This time as well party leadership have been discussing to remain the same leadership of the organization, and not holding the fresh election.

According to sources, President Deuba has proposed to suspend the provisions of the statute and extend the term for one more year to convene the convention under the current leadership, while leader Shekhar Koirala has stated that it should proceed as per the statute.

Apart from the Nepal Muslim Organization and Nepal Rastriya Magar Sangh, out of the 13 fraternal organizations of the Congress, 11 fraternal organizations have already passed the deadline to hold the general convention as per the statute. The then committees of Nepal Students Union, Nepal Tarun Dal, Nepal Prajatantra Senani Sangh, Nepal Kisan Sangh, Nepal Adivasi Janajati Sangh and Rastriya Loktantrik Apanga Sangh failed to convene the convention on time and the party intervened and formed an ad-hoc committee. However, those ad-hoc committees have not been able to convene their convention on time.

Similarly, Nepal Dalit Association, Nepal Women’s Association and Nepal Ex-Servicemen’s Association have also completed their term, but there is no preparation to hold a general convention. The Nepal Tamang Association, which was recognized in 2066 BS, and the Nepal Thakur Samaj, which was recognized in 2067 BS, have not been able to hold a single convention.
