GULMI: Nepali Congress (NC)’s candidate Mahendra Kunwar has been elected chairperson of Madane rural municipality in Gulmi district, defeating his nearest rival by a close margin of 10 votes.
Kunwar, who secured 4,707, was declared the winner on Monday noon. His nearest rival CPN (UML)’s Prem KC got 4,697 votes.
Similarly, CPN (UML)’s Sarita Khadka was elected vice-chairperson with 4,565 votes against CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Begam Chand who received 4,211 votes.
Likewise, CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Bijay Prakash Banem has been elected to the post of chairperson of Mauwakhola rural municipality in Taplejung district.
Babel secured 2,609 votes and defeated his closest competitor CPN (UML)’s Rajan Kumar Thaklung who garnered 2,052 votes. It may be noted that Muawakhola RM is hometown to secretary of CPN (UML) and former minister Yogesh Bhattarai as well as hometown of UML’s late leader Madan Bhandari.
Similarly, the vote count that concluded today unveiled that Nepali Congress’s Kamal Kumari Banem has been elected vice-chairperson of the same rural municipality securing 2,510 votes.
UML’s candidates had been emerging victorious in Mauwakhola rural municipality since 2048 BS. In the previous local level election, UML had enjoyed a sweeping victory as its candidates had won in all wards and all categories except for in Dalit women category.
NWPP makes clean sweep in Bhaktapur municipality
BHAKTAPUR: The Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party (NWPP) has won the May 13 local elections for all posts: mayor, deputy-mayor, ward chairs and members in the Bhaktapur municipality. The party had also won the previous local elections held in 2017.
Outgoing mayor Sunil Prajapati has been elected for a second term with 29,200 votes while his nearest competitor Ram Kasula of Nepali Congress obtained 3,352. Other contenders for the post were Rabindra Lachhimasyu (2,837votes) from the CPN (UML), Satyaram Twayana (2,345 votes), Badri Lakhaju (1,138 votes) from Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Tulasi Bhakta Suwal (742 votes) from the CPN ( Maoist Centre).
Rajani Joshi secured 29,695 votes against 2,784 polled by her nearest competitor from the CPN (UML), Ranjana Chapagain Khaburja.
Shyam Krishna Khatri (ward 1), Hari Prasad Basukala (2), Raj Krishna Gora (3), Upendra Suwal (4), Yogendra Man Bijukhhe (5), Hariram Suwal (6), Ukesh Kwan (7), Krishna Prasad Koju (8), Rabindra Jyakhwa (9) and Laxmi Prasad Hyuanmikha (10) are elected ward chairs in the town.
Nepali Congress leading in results tally
Results of the local level elections held on May 13 continue to come from across the country. The results till 1:30 pm today put the Nepali Congress (NC) in the first position and the CPN (UML) and the CPN (Maoist Centre) are following it respectively
As per the latest available results, the NC has clinched a major post: mayor/chair in 49 local levels, including seven municipalities and 42 rural municipalities followed by four deputy-mayors and 50 vice chairs.
Similarly, the CPN (UML) finds its second place in the results tally with three mayors and 38 chairs of rural municipalities in 41 local levels, in addition to five deputy-mayors and 31 vice chairs.
Likewise, the CPN (Maoist Center) has won the elections for a mayor and 22 chairs in 23 local levels, and two deputy-mayors and 15 vice chairpersons, according to the Election Commission.
The CPN (Unified Socialist) has come out victorious, winning two chair and six vice chair posts while candidates from other political parties have won two chairs and four vice chairs.
The Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party has become victorious in the posts of one mayor and one-deputy-mayor.
Until the filing of this report, the NC has emerged victorious at 1,071 local level wards. A total of 1,066 women members, 1,032 Dalit women members and 2,120 ward members have been elected on behalf of the party.
Similarly, the UML has become victorious at 821 wards with the election of 883 women members, 864 Dalit women members and 1,779 ward members on behalf of it.
The Maoist Center has won the elections at 458 wards. It has won elections for 430 women members, 458 Dalit women members and 804 ward members while the Unified Socialist has emerged victorious at 67 wards. One hundred seventy eight ward chairs have been elected from other parties and among the independent candidates.
