Nirmala Kurmi Case: Three-point agreement between Home Ministry and protesters

Kathmandu, Oct 29: A three-point agreement has been reached today between Ruby Khan and representatives from the Home Ministry regarding the case of Nirmala Kurmi’s abduction, wrongful confinement, and homicide complaint, which has been under protest since Srawan 25.

The agreement was signed by Under Secretary Dil Kumar Tamang from the Home Ministry and Ruby Khan representing the protesting parties. With this agreement, the protesting side has decided to suspend their protest effective immediately.

The agreement states that the Home Ministry and the protesting parties will expedite the investigation related to the abduction, wrongful confinement, and homicide complaint, in accordance with a prior agreement made on Ashad 10. The Nepal Police will write to the District Police Office in Banke to facilitate this process, and police personnel involved in the previous investigation will be assigned for further inquiry as needed.

Additionally, arrangements will be made for the safety of the protesting parties and their families, with instructions sent to the Nepal Police Headquarters and the District Administration Office in Banke. The protesting parties have agreed to end their protest as of today after outlining various demands related to the case.

The agreement was facilitated by former member of the National Human Rights Commission Mohana Ansari, rights activist Bijay Babu Shiwakoti, and other representatives from the protesting side, including Mohammad Sher Wagwan, Basanta Ranjitkar, and Man Kumari Gurtal. Information Officer and Deputy Secretary Dil Kumar Tamang from the Home Ministry provided details on the negotiations.

Prior to this, after a round of talks at the Home Ministry, the agreement was finalized in the evening at the protest site in Maitighar. #nirmala #kurmi #nepal #crime
