Nomination for local level by-elections begins



Kathmandu, Nov 17: The nomination process for the upcoming local level by-elections, scheduled for December 1 (Mangsir 16), has begun. According to Nita Pokharel Aryal, the spokesperson and deputy secretary of the Election Commission, candidates can submit their nomination papers at the office of the election officer in the respective local levels from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Additionally, the commission has announced that the list of candidates will be published today between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM. A total of 38 election offices have been established for the by-elections. These offices have been set up in the centers of the relevant local levels and wards, as confirmed by the Election Commission spokesperson.

Candidates can submit complaints against the nominations from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Mangsir 3. After 3:00 PM on the same day, the Election Commission will review and decide on the nominations and complaints, with the final list of candidates being published between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM on Mangsir 4.

Candidates will have the opportunity to withdraw their nominations on Mangsir 5 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The final candidate list will be published between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM on the same day. Election symbols will then be allocated to candidates from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Voting will take place on Mangsir 16 from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The by-election will fill 44 vacant positions across various local levels. These include the chief of two district coordination committees, the chairpersons of two rural municipalities, the vice-chairpersons of four rural municipalities, the mayors and deputy mayors of one municipality each, and 34 ward chairpersons.

The Election Commission has directed political parties to submit nominations for women candidates for the vacant posts, ensuring gender representation in accordance with the 2079 BS local elections, where men had been elected to these positions and are currently in office. #election
