Taplejung, Nov 28: Unlike the practice of distributing prizes in cash to the winners of various sports, a local tourism promotion body in the district has promoted a local cash crop as a prize.
The winner of men’s football championship held in Taplejung district has been awarded with 131-kg black cardamom.
In the final match played under the second inter-club invited games, Ganesh Chowk Club defeated Himali Topkegola Youth Club by 1-0 on Thursday.
Chairman of the organizing Phangphangden Jharana Tourism Development Committee, Bijay Sanwa, informed that the winner Ganesh Chowk Club got the award- the cardamom (3 maan and 11-kg) worth Rs 302,082 along with a trophy, a medal and a certificate letter.
In the current transaction rate of the cash crop, it costs Rs 92,000 for a maan (40-kg) of black cardamom. The award was handed over as per the transaction rate in the local market on Thursday.
The first runner up Tokpegola Youth Club got some 62-kg cardamom along with trophy, a medal and a letter of certificate, Sanwa added. #nepal #rss
