Kathmandu, Dec 19: Nepal Telecommunication Authority, regulatory body of telecommunication in Nepal, has finally decided to revoke license related to rural telecommunication services of CG Communication Limited. According to NTA sources, the company failed to submit application for the renewal of the permit on time.
According to Telecommunications Act, 2053, the license obtained by CG for rural telecommunication services has been automatically revoked, said the spokesperson Santosh Paudel, who is also the director of the law and license division of the authority.
The application should be submitted along with the fee. He informed that the authority has written to the CG about this, because the CG did not give the request to submit the application.
CG took the license for rural telecommunication services on Mangsir 5, 2060 BS. However, according to the condition that the license will be maintained only after the company submits the ‘Letter of Credit’, the date of the first renewal was set on Mangsir 16, 2080 BS (December 2, 2023), so the company had to complete the process within Mangsir 16 for the fourth renewal.
The representatives of Chaudhary Group, the company that owns CG Telecom, were complaining that they were not allowed to work in the telecom sector for various reasons. Some time ago, after the announcement of Ncell Axiata’s exit from Nepal, CG’s Managing Director Nirvaan Chaudhary posted on ‘X’ saying that they did not get approval even though they promised to provide free voice and SMS to consumers and 50% cheaper data.
