Obstruction continues till formation of probe committee: Gagan Thapa

Kathmandu, May 19: General Secretary of Nepali Congress, Gagan Kumar Thapa, has informed that his party would continue the House obstruction till the formation of a parliamentary probe committee on misappropriation of cooperatives’ funds.

Talking to media persons following the House of Representatives meeting on Sunday evening, General Secretary Thapa reiterated the need of parliamentary committee before the HoR on Monday.

“We are for proper running of parliament. I believe the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister will be ready to form the parliamentary committee in a way as to meet the objective before the next meeting of the parliament scheduled for 11:00 am Monday,” he said, warning that if the probe committee eludes, NC continues obstruction.

He made it clear that the investigation committee was demanded after there was doubt over the government. Thapa suspected the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister’s influence in the probe committee.

“DPM Rabi Lamichhane has ‘obstructed’ and exerted undue influence to the efforts on forming probe committee. His presentation in the parliament also showed that he was deviating from this demand. It clearly proves that he is afraid and dodging parliamentary probe committee,” General Secretary Thapa underlined.

Thapa further viewed his party was not targeting any party. He showed concern why new party was not entertaining questions. “If these all issues were raised with any other person, investigation could begin,” he asserted.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire had removed the schedules of special and emergency hours from the business of today’s HoR meeting after DPM Lamichhane put forth his views.

In response, General Secretary Thapa organized a press meet and shared party’s views.

PM Dahal is scheduled to take vote of confidence on Monday.
