
Kathmandu, May 3: Last month, April, saw a record number of foreign tourists arriving in Nepal – over 116,000. This marks the highest foreign footfall in five years.
According to statistics from the Nepal Tourism Board, a total of 116,490 foreign tourists arrived in Nepal in April , compared to 111,376 during the same period in 2024 and 98,773 in 2023.
The gradual increase in tourist visits following the COVID-19 pandemic indicates a growing recovery in the tourism sector, similar to pre-pandemic times and an increasing global interest in Nepal, as stated in a recent press release by the Board.
Among those who visited Nepal last April, Indians constitute the highest number at 25,933 followed by 10,053 from the USA, 9,037 from China and 6,838 from the UK among others.
There has been a 106.5% surge in the number of external tourist arrivals compared to 2019.
Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO of the Board, remarked that the tourists’ arrival last April was encouraging. “This spike is a testament to Nepal’s enduring appeal and tourism culture,” he maintained.
Nepal has welcomed a total of 415,048 tourists from January to April this year.
