Lisbon (Portugal), Dec 21: More than 650 Nepalis in Malta have submitted applications for electronic passports (e-passports).
The mobile camp, jointly organized by the Department of Passports in Kathmandu and the Embassy of Nepal in Spain, collected biometric details for the applications.
According to Acting Ambassador to Spain, Yagya Raj Paudyal, the camp processed applications for those whose passports had expired, were about to expire within a year, were damaged or lost, as well as for newly born Nepali children in Malta.
A total of 650 biometric applications were collected, with nearly 700 individuals availing various services during the five-day camp.
The camp generated approximately €78,000 (around Rs 11 million) in revenue. “We prioritized providing services to Nepalis in Malta who faced issues related to passport renewal and document verification. The beneficiaries expressed satisfaction with receiving services locally,” Paudyal told RSS).
The embassy stated that the camp provided services such as passport renewal, passport distribution, and document verification. Embassy staff, including Officer Bipin Chand, Deputy Secretary Vidur Khatri from the Department of Passports, and local embassy employees, were deployed at the camp.
The team provided consular services from the office of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Malta from December 14 onward. The mobile camp was coordinated and facilitated by NRNA Malta and other local Nepali organizations.
Since Malta lacks a Nepalese embassy, the camp was conducted jointly by the Department of Passports and the Embassy of Nepal in Spain. Prior to this, the embassy had organized a similar mobile camp in Barcelona, Spain, last month. rss
