Kathmandu, Oct 11: The Public Accounts Committee under the federal parliament has held a discussion with Chief Secretary, General Secretary of parliament, Acting Auditor General and officials from different ministries on why auditing on arrears was not conducted for long time.
Committee Chair Rishikesh Pokharel said that the auditing process for clearing arrears had begun as per the recommendation of 60th annual report of the Office of the Auditor General.
The Committee meeting directed the concerned ministries for sending the updated documents on arrears for auditing. Chair Pokharel expressed worry that the Committee had to direct the ministries again as they failed to submit updated documents on arrears as per the letter it wrote to them a month back.
As per Economic Work Procedure and Financial Accountability Act, 2076, concerned account officer is obliged to clear the arrears.
The arrears which are not settled are discussed in the parliament committee after they are incorporated in the annual report of the Auditor General.
