Parliament won’t run until formation of probe panel: Gagan Thapa

Kathmandu, May 10: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has said his party would not allow running parliament until a parliamentary probe committee was formed on embezzlement of cooperatives.

Putting forth his views in the House of Representatives meeting, the first of the budget session, kicked off on Friday, the major opposition leader insisted on the party’s demand. Speaker Devraj Ghimire allowed time for lawmaker Thapa after his party and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party lawmakers left their seats in protest soon after the HoR meeting kicked off.

He made it clear that NC would not cooperate with any activity of parliament till the demand of probe team was met.

“Not NC but the ruling parties are responsible behind House obstruction,” he said, arguing urgency of address to the demand made by the opposition in the parliament.

After Thapa completed his views, his party lawmakers picketed the rostrum, while Speaker Ghimire was reciting a letter received from the Office of the President.

Speaker Ghimire then announced postponement of the meeting for 15 minutes.
