Kathmandu, Sept 20: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) has released a public notice regarding recommendations for Chief Justice and diplomatic appointments.
According to the notice, the PHC has requested organizations and individuals to provide their concern and recommendation for the proposed appointment of Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut, and two ambassadors as proposed for Belgium and Australia.
Earlier, the Constitutional Council had recommended senior-most judge at the Supreme Court justice Raut for the appointment of Chief Justice of Nepal.
The government has nominated Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal as the ambassador to Belgium (including European Union), which includes representation to Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) as well. Likewise, Chitra Lekha Yadav, from Siraha district, has been recommended as the ambassador to Australia.
The notice invites public feedback on these recommendations within 10 days of publication. Interested parties can submit evidence-backed opinions to the committee if they believe the recommended candidates are unsuitable for the positions.
The committee has provided contact information for submitting feedback, including their office address at the Federal Parliament Secretariat in Singhadurbar, along with a phone number and email address.
This transparent process allows for public participation in the diplomatic appointment procedure, ensuring scrutiny of the recommended candidates before their formal appointments.
The Committee on Thursday, after completing the hearing, recommended 16 individuals for the appointment as ambassadors for different countries, including India, China, UK and USA.
