Parliamentary hearing on Pradhan’s recommendation on July 5

Kathmandu, July 2: A parliamentary hearing regarding the nomination of Krishnaman Pradhan to the position of election commissioner has been scheduled for July 5.

Today’s meeting of the Federal Parliament’s Parliamentary Hearing Committee decided to sit for discussions on July 4 with those who have filed complaints against Pradhan’s nomination.

The meeting, chaired by senior-most committee member Pashupati Shumsher JB Rana, decided to this regard.

Earlier, on June 19, the Committee had called for complaints regarding the recommendation of advocate Pradhan as the election commissioner.

The Constitutional Council recommended Pradhan, an election observation expert, for the appointment as election commissioner on June 16. A letter was subsequently sent to the Federal Parliament Secretariat to proceed with the parliamentary hearing, as demanded by the Constitution.

Pradhan, a permanent resident of Tarakeshwor rural municipality-3 in Nuwakot, currently serves as the general secretary of the General Election Observation Committee (GEOC) and chairs the Rural Development Academy.
