KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ presented a document titled ‘Path to Socialism in the 21st Century’ at the closed session of the 8th National General Convention of the party that began today.

Preparing in a continuous and systematic manner for a peaceful revolution and becoming accountable to the proletariat has been mentioned in the document, said party spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara.

The major thrust of the document is to build a people’s organization and complete the socialist revolution peacefully by building a broad mass base among the people.

“Socialism is possible through peaceful revolt. We are committed to the proletariat, the revolution is going on in a continuous and systematic manner, national freedom should be defended and we should be accountable to the working class people,” adds the document, according to Mahara.

The closed session, which saw a delayed start, has formed a seven-member presidium.

Soon after Chairperson Prachanda tabled the document, leader Dev Prasad Gurung submitted a proposal to amend the statute of the party.

Maoist Centre’s statute draft proposes 15 office bearers

CPN (Maoist Centre) Standing Committee member Dev Prasad Gurung presented a statute draft in the closed session of the party’s ongoing eighth General Convention, proposing a 299-member Central Committee with 15 office-bearers.

The proposal on the statute amendment followed the presentation of the political report by party Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.

The draft has proposed one chair, one senior vice chair, six vice-chairs, one general secretary, two deputy general secretaries, three secretaries and a treasurer.

As Gurung said, the chamber of office bearers will be inclusive.

Likewise, it has proposed for 10 percent nominations in the Central Committee.
